This past Saturday, the Eagles Track and Field team had their first meet at home–the Chuck Randall relay, named after a former coach, who had a thirty-year coaching career. Even though the Washington weather was wet and dismal, the Arlington A&B Boys took it by storm, placing first with a team score of 137.9; Glacier Peak came in second with 90.95, followed by Burlington-Edison with 76.93. They also came first in the Throwers Relay with a score of 10, while Sedr0-Woolley followed with 8 points.

Arlington A&B Girls also placed second in both categories, with a throwers relay score of 8 and an overall team score of 110.91.

Many AHS track stars stood out and performed at an intense level of athleticism, placing first in numerous events. For example, Nathan Beamer ’16 placed first in the 1600 meter run, finishing with a time of 4:30:85; Shanelle Shirey ’15 placed third in the same event with a time of 5:36:76.

Furthermore, Justean Landis ’15 placed first in 4kg shot put with 36-08.00, only to place first again for the 1kg discus with a score of 132-03; while Carl Kulper ’15 also qualified for first in the 12lb shot put at 46-07.75. Taylor Shepherd ’15 took first as well in the pole vault, reaching 11-06.00. At the end of the day, Eagles Track and Field, boys and girls together, placed first ten times.

“We have a whole lot more wins ahead of us as the season continues,” Shanelle Shirey ’15 said.
