68 teams competed during March in the most famous basketball tournament of all March Madness. There was one champion, people plan their brackets weeks before the tournament, hoping to be accurate with their picks.
Every person has a strategy to their brackets whether it’s picking all the higher ranked teams or the underdogs or which logo looks cooler. Drew Brown, a player from the varsity basketball team, was very clear about what his strategy was.
“The strategy for my bracket was, there’s always upsets in the 5-12 games, so I kind of just picked a lot of the 12 and then I picked Florida to win it all” said Brown (27’)
Throughout many decades March Madness has been ground there is always a team that is an underdog that surprises everyone. Many people assume that players rise to the competition because of the rule that you lose your out and last chances to prove yourself that season. Kaleb Barttelet-Wood shared the most surprising moment of the tournament to him.
“High point winning, even though I didn’t want them to win, they just kept knocking down threes. High Point went further than I expected. I thought they were going to get out in the first round” said Barttlet-Wood (26’)
The most popular way people fill out their bracket is going off of the rankings. Which is known as a smart way to go but it is also proven that 25% of the rankings are wrong. Even though it’s a safer way to go, taking chances creates excitement.
“I picked all the number one seeds for the Final Four, which is probably not a good idea. I had a couple number two seeds going to the Elite Eight. It did not go very good,” said Adrianna Thomas (29’)
The tournament is very unpredictable at times because some teams step up and show what they can do, and some don’t come prepared. Ending with the downfall. Adrianna reflected on why her bracket didn’t have the outcome she wanted.
“Because actually some of the number ten teams were doing good,” said Thomas
