On Friday 22 and Saturday the 23 of May, Flight and Aerie are having their Cabaret choir show. A cabaret show is a musical performance that usually has jazz music or shows in musical theater or movies, and they usually have some sort of acting or choreography. In normal cabaret shows the musicians go into the crowd but for this show the audience will come to the performers with the $15 VIP seats on the stage. There are four shows this week, one at 6pm and 8pm on both Friday and Saturday.
When considering the show to go to, you want to see a quality show. A good show usually is well practiced, and the performers should be comfortable and not nervous about the performance. For the best show experience you want a good, fun energy that elevates the experience. While you will get all of these in each show the closing show offers the most of all of these.
“There’s a special energy, I would say, on closing night. Usually a lot of alumni show up to that show, and they’re very loud. It makes for a fun audience,” Mr. Weaver, the choir director said.
While some people want the optimum show, some want smaller crowds. A smaller audience can make the experience more personal, and could give you a better chance at good seats. The later performances in both time, and date would definitely not offer a smaller crowd because they are usually more popular.
“There’s two shows each day. The 6 o’clock shows are, I would assume, are a little less crowded. But especially that first day on the 22nd will be the least crowded,” Kohl Hubbard (‘26) said.
The final show will not only be the highest quality, it will also be the most emotional. The choirs include multiple seniors so the closing show will also be senior night. Alumni often also come to the closing show as is a tradition of the AHS performing arts programs
“Closing Night is probably going to be the most exciting, especially because the seniors are doing a goodbye for them, so there will be a lot of big feelings and it will be really exciting” Juniper Nickel (‘27) said.
The AHS Flight and Aerie Cabaret shows seek to elevate the experience of a normal concert to a unique and exceptional one. All the other shows in the Byrnes performing art center have viewers sit in the normal seats but not this one offering a unique experience. The Vip tickets are only $5 more than the general admissions tickets so why not enjoy yourself.
“what other times do you get to be so close to performers and singers,” Nickel said.
The VIP Tickets don’t just buy you good seats they also get you Refreshments. The free desert included with The VIP ticket is a chocolate cheese cake. There will also be other drinks offered so you could enjoy some food on the stage while everyone in the general seats cant have food or any drinks except bottled water.
“You get to sit right on stage. They’ll be right up close to the performers. You get a free dessert, and you’re just right in the action,” Weaver said
The VIP seats bring you up close and on the same level with the performers. This sort of experience will be one that you will remember for years to come.
It will be “a fun personal experience with people on stage” Hubbard said.
