The newest Spider-Man film, Spider Man Brand-New Day, is already shaping up to be the most talked about superhero movie released in recent years, even before its debut planned for 2026. Fans and critics are divided between excitement and skepticisms with the following Spider Man No Way Home (2021) , in which Peter Parker was forgotten by everyone around him.
The Spider-Man franchise has been one of the most financially successful and culturally influential superhero series in modern film history. Since the early 2000s multiple reboots have happened, and changed across the generations. Each reboot had the main focus on Peter Parker, a high school hero, but this new movie is going to be different.
¨Most excited for, definitely just finding out about the plot and seeing how Peter has to deal with seeing his friends not know him. Cause that’s really hard, you know, I like the fact that Peter’s character is not meant to be one that’s super glamorous and not a character that you want to be in his shoes. But mainly like Spider-Man is someone that he has to be instead of someone that he wants to be,¨ Alan Delgado (‘26 ) said.
Spider-Man No Way Home became a cultural phenomenon, crossing multiverse story telling with major nostalgia-driven box office success, earning over $1.9 Billion dollars world wide.
¨Honestly, I haven’t kept up with the main story line after Phase 3 (Endgame). We’re now in Phase 6 and I don’t feel 4 and 5 had as many bangers as the first 3. 1,2, and 3 had a couple fluff pieces, but it feels like 4 and 5 are mostly fluff and don’t have as much essential content that drives the story forward. Even the post-credits teases of a lot of the Phase 1-3 movies were all slowly revealing what’s happening behind the scenes (or off planet) leading up to the battle vs. Thanos,¨ Mr Costello said.
As anticipation builds, reactions from fans online couldn’t help but speculate of what will come in the film. Some fans have turned to the comic books of Spider Man to compare and contrast the story lines.
All the other movies have storylines that only really work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this movie takes place in the same universe but it’s definitely going to be more comic centered just due to the characters and the overall mix of everything and the plot,” Delgado said.
Behind the numbers and expectations, the story will also come down to character, Peter Parker’s ongoing struggle between responsibility and personal life continue to anchor fans to the franchise.
“Peter Parker struggles and the adversity he faces is probably what ties me the most to the Marvel world. I’m really excited to see how he will navigate that throughout the brand new day Spider movie,” Basia Pszonka (‘28) said.
