Eason Invitational

Besides state the Eason invitational is one of the biggest meets that track participants take place in. The meet takes place at Snohomish high school on a Saturday and it lasts all day. In order to compete in this meet athletes have to meet a qualifying time or mark. Caleb smith a junior distance runner said, “ I have never been to Eason before and I really wanted to. I have been working hard since September, and it looks like the hard work has paid off”.

On Friday before the meet on Saturday there is a time set out for boys and girls to throw the hammer. Most schools do not allow high school athletes to throw the hammer because it is a dangerous. For the girls the hammer is a 4k shot on the end of a chain and handle. And for the boys it is a 12lb ball at the end of a ball and handle. Abby Forester a freshman said, “ I have never touched a hammer before and I didn’t know how to throw it, it was kind of scary”.

There were approximately 50 schools at the meet and to place high you need to have a good race or a good throw to get points for your team. At the end of the meet the results are finalized and there are trophies for first, second, and third. The boys team ended up with the second place trophy. The girls tied for first. There was a coin flip to see who got the first place trophy or the second place trophy, and Lyndsay Leatherman called heads when the flip was tails, so the girls team also ended up with the second place trophy. But both teams did very good over all and with a combined score Arlington was number one. Ms. Piccilo one of the distance coaches said, “ I love going to meets, it reminds me of when I used to compete. And I love cheering on all of you kids”.
