Senior Donavan Sellgren outruns Glacier Peak defender for a 79 yard touch down reception.

The Arlington Eagles faced off against the Grizzlies from Glacier Peak on Friday, with the winner earning the Wesco 3A title. The Grizzlies were able to outlast Arlington in a 29-19 battle.

Coming in, each team boasted high powered offenses and gritty defenses. The game started with two incomplete passes by Arlington QB Andrew Kalahar (’16) followed by a 79 yard touchdown catch by senior wideout Donovan Sellgren. Arlington led 6-0 after the PAT was blocked just 31 seconds into the duel.

The Grizzlies answered with the next 13 points of the game. Arlington tacked on a touchdown as senior Chase Marx secured a 3 yard TD pass thrown by Arlington running back Devon Nutter (’17) early on in the 2nd quarter. Glacier again followed the Arlington score with another scoring run, this time of 16 points. Glacier Peak kicker Kevin Ramsey (’17) was successful on all three of his kicks, including a 24 yard chip-in near the end of the half.

Glacier Peak rushed for 392 yards in the battle, including 140 yards and a score from Dexter Carter (’16) and 97 yards on only 8 carries from junior Colton Bunt. Arlington struggled to run the ball, but soared in the air game as Kalahar threw for 395 yards, including a combined 357 yards thrown to Sellgren and fellow senior Kyle Bayer.

As Arlington struggled about midway through the second half, Kalahar showed his leadership as he has often done throughout the season as he talked with his offensive lineman.

“Leave everything on the field!” he urged his line. “Let’s go! Eagle football!”

The quarterback’s fire was not able to spread as Arlington was only able to score once in the second half.

Despite the loss, Arlington coach Greg Dailer told his team, “I am so proud of you” multiple times as the team talked after the game.
