Linebacker George Spady (’16) awaits the next play versus Stanwood.

As threatening clouds loomed over Bob Larson Stadium Friday,October 9th, the Arlington Eagles (3-0, 5-1) displayed complete dominance over a struggling Stanwood Spartans squad (0-3, 1-5) with a 50-19 victory.

Quarterback Andrew Kalahar (‘16) threw for 368 yards and four touchdowns, while adding one on the ground in only a half of play as Arlington led 44-12 at the break.

The biggest consequence of Friday night’s matchup was an injury dealt to George Spady (’16), described as a severe concussion, midway through the second quarter. Spady eventually left the field via ambulance and was taken to Providence Hospital to undergo a CT scan. Prior to the injury, Spady had blocked each of the Spartans extra-point attempts as Stanwood furiously fought to stay close in the affair.

A 30-yard pass downfield coupled with a roughing the passer call assisted a late first quarter drive by Arlington and ultimately paved the way for a Kyler Smith (’16) five yard touchdown run as the final seconds ticked off the scoreboard. The Eagles converted their third two-point conversion of the night to take a 30-12 lead. They didn’t look back, only allowing Stanwood seven more points in the final three quarters as they completed their route.

Eagles wideouts Kyle Bayer (’16) and Donavan Sellgren (’16) combined for 14 catches and 251 yards with two scores each. Ryley Nelson (’16) also ran back a 65-yard interception in the third quarter to electrify the Eagles sideline and student section in the third quarter.

Next Friday, Arlington squares off at home against Marysville-Pilchuck in the Eagles’ most important game of the season as the winner takes control of the Wesco 3A North division with just a week remaining.
