Varsity Softball Falls to Three Wesco South Teams
After a losing streak of three games, the varsity softball team is looking to make a change. This last week, April 13th-April 17th, the softball program played Lynnwood, Meadowdale, and Glacier Peak. One noticeable quality about the Wesco 3A division is the competition difference between the North and South conferences within it.
The Southern conference has very talented teams that provided the Arlington girls with an unexpected challenge. After playing all of the North conference teams and faring well, the girls expected to come into the southern conference strong and competitive. This was not the case.
Wednesday, April 15th, Arlington faced the tough Lynnwood team. Both teams scored one run in the first inning, but the score remained tied for the five following innings. Notable hits were made in the middle innings by Kendall Fields ‘16. In the top of the seventh inning, Madeline MacLean ‘15 hit a ground rule double. With her on second base, head coach Dan Eng called for a bunt from Sam MacIntosh ‘15, moving MacLean to third base. With two outs, Shyne Mckay ‘16 was at bat. She had three balls on her and it looked like she was going to walk. The coach called for a play where if she walked, she would take second base as well. When this was attempted, the eagles fell short and couldn’t score the run. In the bottom of the seventh, Lynnwood scored one run, to end the game with a score of 2-1. This set the mood for the rest of the week.
The final score of the Meadowdale game on April 16th was 16-5, meadowdale. And the final score of the Glacier Peak game was 9-3, Glacier Peak. The Eagles had a long post-game talk on Friday April 17th and are looking forward to what this next week is going to bring.
They are starting on Monday, April 20th, with an away game against Shorecrest. The game plan is to come in, play hard, stay focused, and have fun.
