Arlington Girls Dominate Against Stanwood, Roll to 13-0 on the season.

The Arlington Eagles girls basketball team cruised to victory against the Stanwood Spartans, 68-50, in a Friday night 3A North battle.

The game started off well for Arlington, with Sevi Bielser (’16) shooting a quick three, and Gracie Castanada (’16) following with two more. Stanwood would lead in the first quarter, 8-5, but Arlington quickly battled back, knotting the game at eleven by the end of the quarter.

Serafina Balderas (’16) opened the second quarter strong, draining a three and picking up a charge, allowing Arlington to go up 14-11. From that point on, Arlington was able to control the game. Seniors Jayla Russ and Sarah Shortt connected for a swift give-and-go with a minute left in the quarter, and Arlington lead at the half, 37-21.

Arlington continued their dominance into the second half, at one point going up by 26 after a technical foul on Stanwood sent Bielser to the line. Bielser would finish the game with a team-high eleven points.

With the clock winding down, Arlington put in their subs, and was able to beat Stanwood handily, 68-50. Russ had an eight-point night, while seniors Emma Janousek and Shortt both finishing with nine points.

“They [Arlington] played with determination and spirit,” said Arlington senior Raiven Yoes, who was also named Fan of the Game.

The underclassmen also had strong nights, with junior Tahlia Miears putting up six, and sophomore Peyton Brown scoring nine.

“A win is a win,” said forward Selena Gutierrez (’16). “We love the taste of a fresh victory.”
