On January 30th, 2015, the Arlington Eagle basketball boys will take on the Oak Harbor Wildcats at 7:15 pm in front of a very large and spirited crowd. Not only will the match up be exciting in itself, but it is also the annual Coaches vs Cancer basketball game.

Cancer has affected a multitude of Arlington High School families, including head coach Nick Brown’s wife. Arlington’s annual Coaches vs Cancer game  first started when she was diagnosed about five years ago and has carried on ever since.

All week long, the AHS Booster Club has been selling pink t-shirts for students and community members alike to wear on Friday night. The shirts are $10 and are being sold at each lunch until the 30th. The profit will go towards the American Cancer Society in attempt to find a cure for the malicious disease.

This year before the game, Arlington residents who have been affected by cancer will be named “Honorary Coaches” and will be able to sit on the bench alongside coaches Brown, Jeff Bryson, and Nathan Davis. The Honorary Coaches are people who have survived cancer or are currently fighting and receiving treatment. “There will also be a moment of silence to remember those who lost their fight,” said JV player Vicho Damianovic ‘16.

Before and during the game, there will be a bake sale consisting of cookies, brownies, and cakes. Donations are also accepted and all the procedes will also go towards cancer research. At halftime, there will also be the famous Half-Court Shot for community members and students alike to participate in. One hundred dollars is given to the person who is able to make one shot from the half-court line. Raffles will also be going on all night for the chance to win various prizes and of course help raise money for cancer research.

Arlington’s gym will be bustling on Friday night, so make sure to buy a pink shirt and support the basketball boys and cancer research. With all the fun and games, it will sure be a night you don’t want to miss. If however you’re unable to make it to the game, you can still donate money at http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?team_id=1775811&fr_id=66919&pg=team.
