Senior Skip Day is a fun tradition put on by the senior class every year at Arlington High School. Typically, senior skip day is on a Monday, a few weeks before the last day of school for seniors. Senior skip day is one of the last senior traditions, before prom and graduation.
The weather can dictate what happens on senior skip day, if it is sunny the seniors go to enjoy a day out in the sun at Lake Goodwin and if not they go have fun jumping around at a trampoline park. This year, the class of 2026 got to enjoy both making a day full of activities.
¨First we all went to Flying Squirrel and we just jumped around for a little bit, we played freeze tag and we played bump on the basketball stuff, and then after that most of us came to Lake Goodwin, and then we played some hackysack. Then we jumped in the water and it was really, really cold,¨ Holland Noback (’26) said.
Senior skip day is a monumental day in the senior year, when the class of 2026 disappear from the hallways in May it symbolizes the soon coming end to their high school experience. The realization of graduation hits at different times for different people.
¨The day made it feel closer, it made it feel so much closer. It’s kind of like an ´oh goodness´, moment like ´this is getting real´, like we have a couple weeks left. It’s getting surreal,¨ Chris Bydalek (’26) said.
Though most seniors participate in senior skip day, not all do it in the same way. Roughly 50-70 kids went to altitude and 25-30 went to Lake Godwin. But a handful more celebrated in their own ways to enjoy the day off.
¨I did participate but I didn’t go to Flying Squirrel. I actually deep cleaned my room and then I went up to Skagit to try to get in the modeling class and I got in! I thought it was at altitude at first and altitude is really boring so that’s why I didn’t want to go,¨ Addi Green (´26) said.
