Toes out Tuesday is a trend that exploded on Tik Tok in 2026. The trend consists of people being more open to wearing flip flops, sandals and Birkenstocks. This trend has found its way to the halls of Arlington High School.
Toes out Tuesday is typically featured in school spirit weeks in the spring and summer season, but now is being seen as an over-all school trend. The trend has caused controversy in schools, with some people loving the idea of free expression and some thinking it’s all disgusting.
“I think some people may be afraid of showing their true self, and if it’s something that you like to do in the summer, I think you should go out and do what you love to do. I think it’s starting a movement where people feel more comfortable with themselves and encourages people out there to do what they want and you know it’s a cute fashion style,” Delaney Case (‘28) said.
Birkenstocks and flip flops started trending in the early 90s, with the recycling of all sorts of trends coming back like blow out hair styles, kitten heels, crop tops and moms jeans. All of these items are female focused, but Toes out Tuesday is inclusive to all.
“They’re (flip flops and birkenstocks) a good way to express yourself, and yes it’s okay for guys to wear their toes out because they’re humans too and it’s a free country to do whatever you want,” Ethan Kimori (‘28) said.
Even with positive reviews, like most trends, Toes out Tuesday isn’t accepted by all. With widespread views of toes being seen as gross, hated and not cute some may have lack of interest in the trend or over all think its gross.
“My general thoughts on feet and toes specifically is they’re kind of gross and I feel like people don’t know how to wash them, so it just makes them stinky. But I would also like to see their point of view because I don’t see why you would like feet at all,” Imari Mora (‘27) said.
