Many students at Arlington High school are looking for ways to make money to pay off their car, for gas, or just for daily needs. One girl at our school has found a way to make stable money without filling out a resume.
Adalyn Smith, a sophomore, has created a business that started in August, and is still going today. She has worked hard to get this started and is still working today.
“I do have a business. It’s called The Glow Mani. It’s custom press-on nails, where I hand paint each of them. I started it in August, and I have a website and an LLC for it now. I do weekly markets and then online sales,” Smith said.
Her inspiration for starting this business wasn’t just for making money, she has always enjoyed nails and wanted to turn the enthusiasm into something bigger.
“I just had a passion for doing nails, and I really liked the idea of being an entrepreneur and just owning a business and being able to make my own money,” said Smith.
This passion of entrepreneurism will help her in the future with her career. Saying she has had her own business will look really good on a resume showing she has had experience. Her favorite part in doing this is getting to have interactions with her clients.
“Talking with all the customers and seeing their different stories and why they’re purchasing it and having to be thankful for that,” Smith said.
Thinking about all she is doing, it is hard to know when or how she does this. A lot of students struggle with managing their time with school, homework and extracurricular activities in the week.
“It’s definitely a lot of balancing between school, sports, homework, all the things. I would just say trying to find all the free time and not really wasting my time on social media or anything,” said Smith.
Smith’s secret is prioritizing and not getting distracted by other things such as social media. It is inspiring to see what students can do if they put their mind to it. Smith is a great example of going for what you want at a young age.
“I’d probably say just go for it. Do your research and everything, but also don’t get scared about all the what-ifs of what could happens. If you have an idea, might as well do it. You never know where it could take you,” Smith said.
