The ability to express creativity through art is an extraordinary gift. The ones who possess the eye to look at something that may be meaningless to the average person and change it into something beautiful are truly blessed.
Art students in Mrs. Perrigo’s graphic art classes have the opportunity to create meaningful pieces and display them around the school for all to see. By showing off their talents students gain confidence in their pieces and are able to see how their fellow peers react to art around the school.
“[Perrigo] puts it up so that other people can see just how fun and how inclusive her class is and how even people who have no experience with art can come and make something really beautiful.” Zoey Kahahane (‘27) said.
Being involved in Graphic arts isn’t just about putting their art around the school though. Students get to learn about themselves, what areas of art they thrive in, make pieces with special connections to themselves, and individualize the artwork the entire class is doing to make it their own.
“We make a lot of different projects, and they’re really cool, like, unique projects. And we work with a lot of different media… A lot of the art we do is, like, meaningful to each student. Like, we get to personalize it and put our own, like, touch into it,” Eileanor Devore (‘26) said.
Putting their best effort and time into pieces of artwork to show how every piece is created differently and uniquely to the artist behind the work. Students spend weeks creating what their peers pass in the hallway and comment on how pretty the pieces look.
“We all just put our best into it and all of it gets to go up because everybody’s skills are different… It decorates the school and it shows creativity, so the walls are so cool,” Peyton Aanstad (‘27) said.
