Arlington Boys fall to Snohomish Depsite Strong Effort From Zachman
The Snohomish Panthers defeated the Arlington Eagles 60-56 in a non-conference game on Friday, December 4th.
The game started off with the Panthers taking a 15-9 lead in the first quarter off of early success in their perimeter shooting. Kyle Sandifer played a key role in the Panther offense throughout the game, dropping in three buckets from downtown in the first and leading the panthers in scoring with 16 points on the game. In the second quarter, the Eagles focused their offensive efforts away from the perimeter due to their first half shooting troubles, which would continue throughout the rest of the game. Arlington found consistency in senior Tim Zachman early, both in the rebounding game and on the offensive end. Zachman had 9 points and 9 rebounds at the half, leading the Eagles in both categories. “Every game, I crash the boards as hard as I can,” said Zachman. When asked on his mindset coming into a physical game like Friday’s, Zachman stated that the preparation process starts days before the actual day of the game. “We get into the mindset that we got to go out and battle,” said Zachman, who finished the game with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
At the half, the score remained close with the Panthers leading 31-28.
In the second half, the Panthers jumped out to an early start after Arlington committed four straight turnovers. The added offensive support from Kobe McDaniel, who finished with 13 points, Jake Perry, finishing with 11, and Jacob Shogren, who added another 11 points, helped give the Panthers the push they needed to sustain their lead throughout the third quarter.
Heading into the 4th quarter, Arlington trailed 36-45, but the Eagles rallied behind their premier scorer in Drew Bryson, who finished the game with 16 points, 11 of those coming in the 4th quarter. Bryson’s takeover of the last quarter cut the Panther lead down to just four, but the Eagles weren’t able to complete the comeback, and the Panthers won 60-56. Arlington’s perimeter shooting played a huge role in their loss, shooting just 7-30 from deep, something that is uncommon from a talented shooting group like the Eagles.
After the contest, both teams hold a 1-1 record on the season.
