College and Career Readiness

In order to prepare students for post-high school life, Washington State has outlined that the incoming class of 2019 will have new requirements in order to graduate. This change requires students to choose a career pathway during their time in high school for their High School and Beyond Plan. The credit amount will change as well, going from 22.5 to 24.0.

The credit change is as follows:

  • Three credits in science
  • Two credits in the fine arts
  • Two years of world language
  • The third year of mathematics can be met with a math equivalency
  • New way of acquiring CTE credits

The hope for students to be “College and Career Ready” involves the graduating classes acquiring knowledge and skills in English and Mathematics that will allow them to be successful in their job training and secondary-education. The credit change gives students the ability to customize their education to meet their personal goals.

Parents of incoming freshmen are encouraged to attend the Parent Night event on May 7th from 6-8 PM in the BPAC to learn more about the credit changes and upcoming expectations.
