Wrestling Season Preview
This season is looking very promising for the 2015-2016 wrestling team. With a team full of energetic and enthusiastic freshman, as well as seasoned upperclassmen, everyone is feeling very confident about their chances of going to state.
“This is by far the strongest team we have ever had,” said senior Boston Jones.
With last year’s track record of 12 state competitors and 7 state placers, the team has a great chance of going to state once again. This year, an astonishingly large number of 65 people joined the team, which increases the team’s chances of doing well.
Coach Iverson, the head wrestling coach, said, “Since we have 65 wrestlers, we want to end the season with at least 55. Last year, the turnout was 50 but ended up with 40 wrestlers.”
Coach Iverson has a lot of faith that this season’s wrestling team has a shot of earning a league title and a chance at going to state.
“The team has wrestlers that have been wrestling since they were in diapers, I think that is one our strong points. Also, we attended two camps over the summer to keep the players in shape off season. I think this season has very skilled and talented wrestlers and this season will be great,” said Coach Iverson.
“I’ve never been more excited for a season before,” said senior State Champion Jeremy Nygard. “I think that at least 10 people will most likely go to state. Our team is very strong and experienced this year. I’d say that our main goal is to make state, and definitely win districts and regionals.”
