The AHS volleyball girls participated in a strenuous battle against Shorecrest High School on October 2. The hard fought game was reflected in the girls new camo game day shirts which state the theme for the year, “Relentless Pursuit”. As the game began, the girls were off to a slow start as they lost the first match in the 5 game set. The volleyball girls agreed they couldn’t get any momentum going and they weren’t able to execute any of the plays they were attempting. However, when the second match started, the team started playing a very different game from where they seemed to be at the beginning of the first match. They started digging the ball up, getting fantastic sets, and were able to slam the ball down on the other side of the court without it being returned back over. The girls came from behind and it ended up being a close and exciting match to participate in and watch. The momentum stuck with the girls and they carried it with them into the 3rd match as they were able to dominate the intense and skilled Shorecrest team 25-11. Their relentless pursuit was able to help them overcome the adversities they had faced. Coming into the 4th match, the girls were determined to make a comeback and win the game. They still played well but they were unable to upset the Shorecrest Scots during the 5th set so the Lady Eagle suffered a devastating 3-2 match loss. It wasn’t a complete blowout however because senior Audrey Frolich managed to get 30 kills. Senior Jessie Landis also got 12 beautiful kills and senior Michaela Krogen was able to get multiple digs that attributed to the exciting intensity of the game. The volleyball girls play again at AHS on Thursday, October 9 as they take on Mountlake Terrace High School. The freshman and JV team will have games at 5:15 pm and varsity will play at 7 pm in the main gym.
