Winter Tryouts

Last week the main focus for winter sport athletes were the tryouts. People are trying the best they can to make the team and putting all of their effort in. For the basketball program there were a total of about 95 kids that tried out girls and boys combined. Jessica Ludwig, One of the girls basketball captains says “tryouts are usually the worst part of the season because the coaches want to test kids to their full ability and make sure they are out on the correct team”.  Freshman Jayne Dauz stated “there was a lot of running”. Being part of the girls I can also say that there was a lot of running during tryouts and that I was very out of shape. The first girls’ basketball game is on December fourth.

For the boys program I got the same reactions from the players. Bradey Brummel one of the boys basketball captains says “everybody tried their best during tryouts and pushed themselves to their limits, we have a lot of new talent this year and expect to do pretty well during the regular season”. The confidence is already growing in the program and I can tell this will be an exciting year to watch.  As for wrestling there was about 25 kids that tried out. Most of them were boys but there was a solid group of girls this year.

Connor Gonzales says “ wrestling is one of my favorite times of the year, it is my senior year this year and I am going to try and make the most of it”. I am sure this is every seniors thoughts as they come up on their final season of athletics at AHS. Another senior Monterae Stapelton says “I haven’t been doing wrestling for long but I really enjoy the sport and I am excited for my final year.”
