Alyssa Hutchens (’20) and Mr. Iverson share a laugh during his fourth period Health class.

After bidding farewell to Mrs. Dey, Arlington Administration had a tough decision to make in finding someone to fill her position. A few days before second semester they decided to hire on Alex Iverson to teach Health to our Freshman Eagles.

Prior to being hired, Mr. Iverson was already a student teacher and an Assistant Varsity Basketball coach at Arlington. Mr. Iverson came from Lake Stevens High School, where he played basketball himself. He expressed the admiration he had for Arlington’s program back in high school because he could tell how strong of a program the coaches created.

He wants to provide a comfortable classroom environment and keep his doors open to welcome any students in for whatever reason.“I’m here after school showing students that I’m not just here to show up from 8 o’clock to 2:30. I’m here to invest in their lives and really give them as much knowledge I can about basketball, about life, whatever it might be.” (Iverson)

Mr. Iverson has a strong passion for coaching Basketball and has hopes to coach more sports in the upcoming years.

The basketball staff are strong advocates for Mr. Iverson and his future at Arlington High School.“Iverson really has the ability to have a strong connection with the basketball boys because he’s much younger and closer in age to them” (Jordan Buffon ’19).

He has expressed extreme gratitude to all staff members, coaches and managers here and enjoys all of their company everyday. Walking into his class you’ll see his freshman attentive and engaged while sharing light hearted laughs and life advice that they will carry with them forever.
