The first few months following an election are crucial. It’s where people decide whether or not they like their new president, or if they believe that he’s going to be the right person to lead the nation. Following the election and inauguration of Donald Trump have been controversial to say the least.

From the muslim ban to the talk about the Mexico-America wall, he’s making waves throughout many Americans lives. Many are optimistic about the businessman turned president. Others, however, believe that we’re in for some trouble along the way. For Sophomore Samantha Pool, she’s on the side that believes that despite the controversy, is sure that over time things will come out that shows him to be a good and tactical president.“I think he will change the way that people view America,” she said when asked whether he’s going to be a good president. “Given his history he has clearly shown that he’s a hard worker…when a Marine was killed in action he left the media at the White House and went to meet the family of the victim. These qualities make a good leader.”

Even with many supporters there is always going to be the second end of the spectrum. Ivy Crawford (‘19) holds very strong beliefs against the new president. “I feel he is too emotionally unbalanced to lead this nation,” she said. Speaking of his frequent Twitter posts and disputed press conferences or meetings. “I think the economy  will only get worse and our society will drift farther apart. He himself may not be bad, but as has been seen by the rising hate crimes, will be the symbol of backwardness and oppression.”

Resting in the middle there’s the non-voters or the ones who don’t have an opinion, the ones who don’t follow politics. There’s always going to be people from every possible side.“I don’t get caught up in his comments,” history and algebra teacher Mr. Bryson said. “I’m willing to wait and see. He needs to learn to get things done-to compromise.”

While nobody knows for certain what exactly is going to happen this term, everyone has a prior idea of what they think is going to happen. The only thing we can do now is wait.
