Friday September 2, the Eagles opened their 2016-2017 football season against the 4A KingCo school, Redmond. A senior captain, Devon Nutter (’17), contribute a lot of rushing yards in the night and a lot of tackles on the defensive side, said “I like the knots you get in your stomach– the pregame nerves. That’s what I like most.”

Senior Mason Bergley, another captain, said what he liked most about Friday football games was “hitting people.” He helped lead the Eagles’ defense to two forced fumbles in the game, one of which resulted in a touchdown by Cooper Cummings (‘18). Cummings would get two touchdowns before the end of the half and Gabe Green (‘18) would also contribute a touchdown to the 21-7 lead at halftime.

Starting the second half, the Eagles continued their scoring spree, when they drove down the field and hit Jaren Carey (‘18) with a pass in the end zone, putting the Eagles at 27-7. After this, the Eagles continued to drive on many occasions down the field, but were intercepted twice by the tall Redmond defense. The Redmond Mustangs scored a touchdown by the end of the third quarter and another near the end of the game. In the end, the Eagles topped the Mustangs in a preseason opener 27- 21. The Eagles will face 4A Wesco rival, Lake Stevens, this upcoming week.
