Prom Is a Girl’s Best Friend
The warmest winter on record in Western Washington since the mid-1950’s is bringing spring fever early to Arlington High School. For underclassmen, spring means sunshine and the end of classes with the smell of summer lingering in the air. However for upperclassmen, the first gleam of early spring sunlight means one thing and one thing only: Prom is quickly approaching.
Though Valentine’s Day was only two short weeks ago, Prom Fever has hit junior and senior girls hard, partly due to the recent sunny weather.
“The sunshine just reminds me of spring which means prom is coming up so I went dress shopping with a few of my friends last weekend,” Jessica Severson ‘15 said. “Last year, at this time, I’d already had my dress for a month. Prom is only 60 days away so it’s time to get things planned.” Most AHS girls have waited their entire lives for this one night where they get to dress to the nines and hope to snag a slow-dance with their latest crush. In the midst of college acceptances and senior presentations, the topic of conversation has been who has already been dress shopping. But for most Arlington guys, Prom has not even been considered yet.
When asked about the topic of Prom, Stuart Tombros ‘16 gave a surprised look and asked, “When even is that?”. “That’s crazy that girls already have their dresses,” Tombros said when he figured out Prom wasn’t until April 25th. Thankfully for Tombros, he still has a little over two months to prepare himself for the chaos of Prom season.
This year’s Junior and Senior Prom is going to be at Seattle’s famous EMP Museum that boasts a multitude of artifacts ranging from Science-Fiction to recent Pop Culture entertainment. Although tickets still don’t go on sale for quite a while, Prom will still definitely be a hot topic around the hallways of AHS.
