With the release of Hurry Up Tomorrow, The Weeknd—also known as Abel Tesfaye—has sent fans into a frenzy over his latest album.
The Canadian artist first gained recognition in 2011 with House of Balloons, an album that chronicled his struggles starting out in Toronto. Since then, his career has flourished, with Hurry Up Tomorrow marking his 11th album over a 14-year span. Throughout the years, his fanbase has only grown, with many having followed him since the beginning.
“Um, well, like ever since I was little, I heard him on the radio, but I really started ‘listening’ to his music in sixth or seventh grade,” said Delaney Case (9).
The buzz surrounding Hurry Up Tomorrow, released on January 31, 2025, is well-earned. The album explores themes of overcoming fears, coping with grief, and not allowing hardships to consume you. While some listeners have mixed opinions, the overall reception has been largely positive.
“I think it was overhyped, but it’s pretty good,” said Jacob Todd (11).
This album marks a turning point in The Weeknd’s career, as it may signify the end of his era as “The Weeknd.” However, his devoted fans are ready to support whatever comes next. Nearly a month after its release, Hurry Up Tomorrow continues to dominate the charts and remains a top-ranking album on Apple Music.
Adding to the excitement, The Weeknd recently announced a stadium tour featuring Playboi Carti and Mike Dean. The tour will make a stop at Lumen Field in July 2025, giving fans even more to look forward to.
“I just bought two VIP tickets for his concert on July 12,” said Todd.
Whether it’s his signature R&B style or the emotional depth of his lyrics, The Weeknd’s music continues to resonate with listeners. No matter where his career takes him next, his impact on the industry and his fans is undeniable.
