Some think that even though they only had a few drinks they can drive. But in reality they can’t drive safely. About one third of car crash fatalities are from drunk driving. From 2009-2018 1,602 people in Washington have been killed in drunk driving accidents. In America from 2010-2019 over 10,000 people have died in drunk driving crashes each year.

Just recently, two people were killed in a drunk driving accident. On January 20 at about 2:38 A.M. in Arlington, a 28 year old Stanwood man was under the influence while driving down highway 9. The pair were walking from the 7-11 to their home, as they were on the cross walk the driver hit them. According to Kiro 7, after hitting the two the man stopped and remained at the scene. When emergency responders arrived the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. He was booked into Snohomish County Jail for two counts of vehicular homicide.

That’s not the only incident that has happened this month. Backup quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, Geno Smith was recently arrested for suspicion of drunk driving. Washington State Patrol pulled him over for going 96 in a 60. As well as driving erratically across multiple lanes of traffic. According to the AP NEWS website there have been at least 10 cases of drivers being under the influence.

The new year just started, and already there have been unnecessary deaths from drunk driving. If you drive please do NOT drink, or take drugs and drive. It will not only ruin or end your life, but others in the process.
