There are a few faces that stand out in the halls of AHS as a happy person, or a constant, big smile, or just a hard worker. Katelyn McDonald, a senior, this year fits all these characteristics. She always has a bright smile to share to all, well, other than during a dumb physics test. But there is more than meets the eye to this happy girl. A life full of softball and sports make her up.
At the age of 7, her father took her out to her first little league try out. This began her softball career. She is currently on the select team, which is all year round. She can have up to 3 practices a week and tournaments across every weekend across the United States. And that’s not even talking of when the school team is in session. “My all time favorite memory I have is when we were at state and up by 1. The opposing girl was on base and had two outs. We got her out and then all ran off the field to celebrate. It was an awesome moment,” McDonald gushes. This sport continues to be a big part of her life but she’s not yet sure if it will be a part of her future or not.
McDonald was also given the chance to speak throughout the Arlington School District about anti-bullying. “It really gave me a whole new perspective on the students here and bullying.” Because of this experience and also helping as a peer tutor this year, McDonald explained how she was very interested in being a therapist for special needs.
Someone who really influenced her in this direction was Mr. Murray. “He’s a great guy, who really displays positivity and understanding to all that meet him.” Although McDonald may have high hopes for the future, she is already influencing her peers in a big way.
