How to Survive the “End of School Year Blues”
As the school year comes to an end, you may be thinking; “It’s almost summer. I’m done” or “My grades don’t matter anymore,” like Kylie Block(’17). You find yourself lacking motivation to finish school work, or even show up. The end of the year blues; a time where you lack motivation, and become lazy. You’ll still be held accountable for your work, so how do you get back on your A-Game? Here are some helpful hints to stay on top of it all
Set Goals for Yourself
Think about the kind of GPA you’re looking for and continue working towards that. Where do you see yourself in the future? Remind yourself of where you are currently, and the fact that this is not your final destination. Whether or not that be community college, university, or straight into the workforce. “I try to set goals so that I survive the everlasting struggle of this life thing”” said Logan Humphrey (‘19).
Keep Yourself Engaged (both in and out of school)
When you have no desire to anything, do something! Focus on something you enjoy doing, learn something new, or go on an adventure. It doesn’t have to be school related, just keep your mind and body busy. Emma Dickison (‘19) stays engaged, “This time of year people have no motivation to finish school off strong. I look at that and it motivates me to stay positive and attentive for the last couple of weeks.”
Take Care of Yourself
It’s cliche but, taking care of your body, both physically and mentally will help you stay on track these last few weeks. Make sure you get enough sleep and eat healthy. Teenagers preform their best when they have slept for 9 to 9 ½ hours a night. Maintaining a healthy diet, and staying well hydrated, allows you to stay energized and less groggy. These factors play huge roles in your day to day life; they can decide your academic success or failure.
Change up Your Learning Method
Trust me, I get it, studying for those upcoming tests can be a bit boring and tiresome. So how can you ensure you get that A as well as not fall asleep the next time you’re up late? Switch up your routine! Change can definitely be a good way to drive your academic learning. Adjust your note-taking and homework strategy according to subject, teacher, assignment, or even your opinion on the class. Try organizing study groups, ask for extra help, or study while exercises.
Not just your teachers and your parents want you to finish off strong; but also your peers! With these few tricks you could well be on your way to academic triumph. Summer is just around the corner; don’t slack off now. You can do it!
