While many of us are frantically working on what to put on our Christmas list, Interact Club focuses on how to help those get what’s on their lists. Interact, based off of Rotary Club, is an organization where high school students can help their school and community through service projects. These service projects help provide volunteering awareness and encouragement.

Lyanne Rolf, Interact’s connection to the Rotary Club, “I noticed the Rotary Club in Arlington when I was young. I knew it was something I’d want to do someday. When I started my professional career I joined Rotary. When I saw my daughter enjoying some of the Rotary events, and then learned about interact and how it would give her the opportunity to experience the same activities with her peers we decided to work on starting a club.”

Interact has already done several projects that help out the community. Recently, Interact helped the Rotary Club give train rides at Hometown Holidays. Interact members helped load and unload kids into the train that they had helped decorate. And coming December 22, Interact will be making Christmas baskets for needy families.

“I like to constantly remember why I am giving and helping. It reminds me that what I’m doing can mean the world to somebody else. The satisfaction of seeing what my giving is doing and impacting is a good motivator,” said Interact’s treasurer, Alex Hurley (‘19).

Interact is an encouraging and uplifting club. It has a positive atmosphere, club members, projects, and open policy. The club’s ideals and atmosphere promote a charitable environment that helps not only the community, but the interactors.

“My favorite thing about Interact so far is the ideas we are coming up with to help internationally and our community. It makes me so excited for what the future holds,” said Michaela Camlin (’18), Interact’s secretary.

When asked for advice on giving, Hurley said, “Constantly remind yourself that you will always find more joy in the end by being selfless instead of selfish. Think as if you were in their shoes and how a little act of kindness can change another person’s life.”

During this holiday season, remember that it is always more fulfilling to give instead of receive. Interact Club is learning this satisfaction firsthand. If you’re interested in joining Interact and discovering what the club is about, they meet every Wednesday in Duskin’s Room.
