Assistant Principal, Eric Heinz, speaks at the seniors’ Expectations Assembly during the second week of school. Heinz is the head of senior requirements, and helped make the decision to eliminate the senior presentation this year.

The infamous senior presentation is no longer a requirement for seniors to graduate.

Seniors will still be required to complete their employability portfolios–which have been in the works for the past three years–a senior binder, a final High School & Beyond Plan, a reflective letter, and a copy of their Scholarly Paper.

Assistant Principal Eric Heinz laid out the new graduation responsibilities as the new coordinator of senior requirements.  He explained that with the recent changes in state graduation requirements for this year’s freshmen, the graduating class of 2019, the administration and school board decided that it was a good time to reflect on the purpose and value of the senior presentation.

Heinz described that dropping the project entirely this year made sense, due to the increase in credit requirements and a larger testing load students are facing.  He also went on to explain that the skills the presentation develops are already covered by much of Arlington’s current Common Core curriculum.

In response to the removal of the senior presentation from the senior agenda, our upperclassmen can take a deep breath.
