Dr. Dog: An Original Band With One Of The Best Indie Cover Songs

Formed out of West Grove, Pennsylvania, Dr. Dog is an indie rock group with six members who all provide vocal harmonies. In my opinion, they remind me of the 1960s Beatles with a modern indie twist.

The origins of Dr. Dog can be traced back to two of it’s original members Toby Leaman and Scott McMicken, who began to play music in the 8th grade. At that time, they preferred to write their own material instead of being a cover band.

Yet, one of their most popular songs, “Heart it Races”, is a cover. The song “Heart it Races” was originally written and performed by Architecture In Helsinki, an electronic focused group that sounds very similar to Passion Pit. To some people, Dr. Dog has succeeded at playing a tune better than it’s original creators.
