As the Seattle Mariners are heading back to the MLB playoffs, the excitement has spread from T-Mobile Park all the way into the classroom and hallways at Arlington High School.
The Mariners earned their first round bye with a balanced mix of dominant pitching and clutch hitting. Their rotation led by young arms, and timely home runs and late inning rallies powered their offense. This year’s roster has a lot to offer compared to previous years.
“Even though they had been playing well, they went and picked up a couple guys, and I think it just kind of gave them a boost mentally that they had more help lengthen their lineup ” Mr. Striegel Varsity Boys Baseball Coach said.
With their pitching staff and lineup that can deliver in big moments, the Mariners aren’t just another baseball team, they are shaping up to be one of the toughest opponents in the postseason.
“It’s hard to beat the Mariners because we always have pitchers that go seven innings at a time, and it’s just really hard to get hits off of our pitchers…I think now going into the playoffs that everybody’s healthy, I think we’re going to be a team to beat,” Camden Knudson (26’) varsity catcher said.
The atmosphere in the city reflects just how long fans have been waiting. From chanting in the stand to lining up hours before first pitch, the fan base creates an atmosphere that the players know and love.
“It’s electric right now. It’s exciting to see so many people wearing Mariner’s gear. It’s exciting to see their social media posts, where it seems like the team is all in and it’s just an exciting time overall” Mr. Hurst Varsity Boys Baseball Coach said.
