This last weekend the Washington state track meet was held at Mount Tahoma High School. Arlington boys placed 20th overall while the girls placed 13th. Why did they perform this well when it’s our first year being in 4A? What got our athletes to State? And how do they feel about their performance?
Sophomore Peach Hunter said this when asked about the difference between 3A and 4A. “It’s definitely a whole different competitor’s mindset. There’s obviously different teams and people are definitely more competitive in 4A I believe.”
Junior DK said, “we did real good, especially coming into 4A track not knowing how much competition there really was. Overall it was just a good season.”
Senior Grady Fournierre said this when asked about the experience compared to other meets. “Well the audience really gets into it Compared to like leagues and districts and every other meet. Everyones there watching every single race which makes it more exciting.”
What can they improve on to make sure they can get to state next year? DK said, “More offseason practicing and training and just explosive power out of the blocks.” Hunter said, “I’m gonna make sure that everyone on my relay team is ready to compete and that we’re all in the right headspace. And just work together as a team.”
When asked about how more people could get to state and perform better DK said, “It’s not even about the team it’s really about the person. Putting in the work themselves to make sure they can actually get to that level.”
