Arlington Eagles Varsity Football Falls to Oak Harbor Wildcats
Oak Harbor 41, Arlington 27
After two fumbles in the first quarter of the game by Arlington, Oak Harbor jumped out to an early 13-0 lead, due to one aspect of the game that they clearly have working for them this early in the season; the run game. Dejon Devroe ran the ball 13 times for 145 yards in Friday’s game, scoring two touchdowns in the process. With Arlington behind 13-0, it seemed as if the game was heading in an unfavorable direction for the Eagles until a fumble by Oak Harbor lead to a 48-yard return for a touchdown by Arlington’s Junior defensive lineman, Benicio Madrigal-Ries, cutting the Oak Harbor lead to just 6. After the Eagles were stopped on their opening drive of the second half, Oak Harbor took over and put the ball in the hands of their playmaker, Devroe, who cut back and forth across the field for a 77-yard touchdown, extending the Wildcats lead to 20. Devroe’s ability to cut the ball to the outside and use his speed to burn past defenders in the secondary gave Oak Harbor the offensive advantage it needed in a game against another top team in Wesco. Arlington did put up a fight however, scoring two touchdowns in the final quarter, but the clock worked against them as they tried to mount a comeback. The game ended with a 41-27 win by Oak Harbor leaving the Wildcats 2-0 in league play and 3-1 overall and Arlington 1-1 in league and 3-2 overall.
