Welcome Foreign Exchange Students!

สวัสดี!
Hej!
xin chào!
Hallo!
Bonjour!

Here is a list of the conversation starters that you can use to talk to the six foreign exchange students here at Arlington High School. We have Emily MØeller from Denmark, Sarah Sabatini from Belgium, Marine Wassmer from France, Maimas Channiti from Thailand, Nguyen Tran Thao Nguyen from Vietnam, and Annika Schuermann from Germany.

All of these brave individuals made the scary decision to come to the United States for many different reasons. Coming from vastly different parts of the world, the students all had distinct features of America that they wanted to experience.

Emily MØeller (‘19) said that she wanted to join Rotary Club, and not a lot of other places that she had the option to go to offered that. “I like learning and experiencing new cultures” said MØeller. She went on to say that she also likes to make new friends who are also abroad just like her.

Marine Wassmer (‘19) said that the United States “is an interesting country” because there are many differences between France and America. Among these differences is that teachers here in America have much better relationships with their students compared to the teachers in France.

Sarah Sabatini (‘18) said that she wanted to come to the U.S. because she wanted to improve her English, meet new people, and of course try that world-famous, classic American hamburger.

Since the U.S. is such a different experience from most other parts of the world, all of the students had particular things in mind that they wanted to experience before they went back home.

Annika Schürmann said that she wanted to meet the people here in America because “they are way more friendly.”

Being an exchange student is hard, and the courage that it takes to live in a whole other country is something that a lot of us can’t relate to. Welcome to AHS guys!
