Non-stop Smiles

Dana Capulong, 12, has made a ton of new friends volunteering at a local Arlington senior center.

“She always brightens up your day by saying ‘Hi’ in the hallway.” Casmir Canares, a senior, gave this quote when asked her favorite thing about Dana Capulong. But behind the smiles and cheerfulness on the exterior is a girl who is really making a difference in the community.
Probably one of the most active students in the Arlington community, Capulong explains how she currently is volunteering at Arlington and Snohomish retirement homes and also participating in certain kids activities in her church. “I love to hang out with old people in retirement. After breakfast they always play board games and its just so fun to see how easily entertained they are!” Capulong says with a smile.
Capulong is also very involved in school clubs, one is Knowledge Bowl. She continued to rave of the team. “One is first in 4A and 2nd overall.” They have had a ton of huge accomplishments over the year but typical Capulong says her favorite part is Mr. Mendro and all the friends she has made through it.
With all her extracurricular activities, its no wonder she also has big plans for her future. “I want to go to college, learn a few things, get a degree, go to graduate school.” Working with the elderly has really made her interested in a career helping people, such as a doctor, for example. When asked what inspires her, she replied instantly, “My mom cause she gets work done but she’s fun, girl.”
Erin Delaney, 12, sums it up; “She is the nicest and friendliest person I have ever met.”
