Magic of Movies

As we enter the wintertime and people begin to find more indoor activities, the movie theater proves to be a popular destination for many students. Even I who rarely see movies went and saw The Hobbit, Saving Mr. Banks, and Frozen…twice, in this break alone. According to many of the students, some of the greatest movies they’ve ever seen are currently in theaters.

Leif Sesby, a sophomore, went and saw the Anchorman 2. “It was way better than the first one, which I had already liked a lot,” he explained. Although he hadn’t been to see a movie in almost 5 years, this Will Ferrell Comedy he couldn’t seem to pass up.

47 Ronin, a fantasy action movie is centered in 18th century Japan, describing a group who are out for revenge on the murder of their master, seemed to be a big hit this winter also. Anna Soltero, 12, said, “I loved this movie. It was very historical for the Japanese people and super interesting.” She went on to explain this fat guy in great detail and a sword and whatnot that Soltero seemed to find hilarious. Guess you’ll have to go see for yourself, though.

My personal favorite, Frozen, a new Disney movie came out recently. Kaitlin Arnold, a senior, also raved of the movie. “Well, It’s unlike any of the other Disney movies…it teaches you to be true to who you are regardless of what others think. It had an unexpected plot twist and features an adorable love story!” She went on to explain, “It’s the kind of movie you want to go back to the theaters to see it a second time.”

Overall, this season seemed to be a very good one for quality movies. So, if you find yourself depressed on a dreary, rainy day, head down to the local theater and you will be sure to find something to suit your tastes.
