It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
As we approach arguably the biggest holiday of the year, there is much controversy to what and when the Christmas preparations should begin. For some, things like holiday music and movies should be reserved to the day of December 25th only. Then there are others on the very opposite end of the spectrum, like me. It is not unusual for a Mariah Carey Holiday Pandora music station to be playing on a bright august day as I beg my mother to pull out the Christmas decorations from the basement. Although, there seemed to be much debate, in our school overall there seemed to be a unanimous agreement.
“Uh yeah [I love the holidays]! I’m freakin’ ecstatic every year!” Dana Capulong, a senior, exclaims. She also shared her orderly system of when each Christmas tradition should begin. For music, September. Decorations; around November. And as for love; all year round! Tekoah Holland, a freshman, explained that, “we usually start decorating a
few days after Thanksgiving,” which she seemed to enjoy.
Interview after interview resulted in the same response. “I love Christmas!” “It’s never too early for Christmas.” “I start getting in the spirit right after Halloween.” Nick McDonald, 10, says, “My mom catches the Christmas bug early and turns on the music a couple weeks before Halloween. My dad, on the other hand, thinks it should be only played on Christmas Day. “ McDonald definitely leaned toward his mother’s way of thinking.
Overall, Arlington High School seems to have a strong love for the Christmas season whether it’s the goodies, spending time with loved ones, or even just having that much needed two week break. Or according to McDonald it would definitely have to be, “Kissing no one under the mistletoe.”
