Life in the Student Section – From a Senior
Being a part of the student section is one of the many things that’ll be done in the short four years of high school, but it might be one of the biggest highlights. Emily Keefe (’18) and Maciee Delaney (’18) are seniors at Arlington High School who have been going to games since their freshman year.
To Keefe, it makes her feel more involved with the school by cheering on her school’s teams with all her other classmates, especially when the theme of the game is “Eagle Spirit” so she can wear her favorite velvet blue pants. Delaney claims to be the “main leader in the student section” so she feels that she has a responsibility to make people more involved.
“The loudness makes me happy and I love seeing people,” Delaney says when asked what her favorite part of the student section is.
When the band plays songs ranging from “The Star Spangled Banner” to “All I Do Is Win” and the famous Arlington Eagle “Fight Song,” they create positive energy and spirit for the crowd according to Delaney. Jake Hubbard (’18) is a wide receiver on the Arlington varsity football team. He loves the band because after every touchdown, they play the “Fight Song” and it gets everyone hyped up.
To both Delaney and Keefe, they agree that football has the best student section since it is the biggest turn out of student bodies, and there has a lot of positive energy.
Hubbard who claims that the student section is his “family” since they give him “motivation within himself” with all of the energy that they give off and that he feels likes a celebrity.
He was asked what he liked most about the student section doing for his team and he said, “When they go crazy on 3rd down and it disturbs the communication on the other team.”
Cheerleaders are also a huge part to making the student section go wild. Keefe loves how the cheerleaders bring the students involved in their cheers and keeping them all positive. Delaney says that they provoke more cheers than the ones the students in the section create.
Tailgates have been around for awhile, but according to Delaney, she is glad that they have started to happen more and more since her sophomore year. She feels like she is keeping the legacy going by having them before every game.
The student section gets crazier and louder week after week since the Eagle football team has been dominating the season so far. Don’t miss out on making memories in the student section, because those Friday night lights in the crowd are only a little snippet of life that needs to be enjoyed.
