Trump Inauguration
The American presidential inauguration of 2017 swears in President Donald Trump. Donald Trump, at age 70, became the oldest president to ever be sworn in. He is also the first president to have never served in public office or as a military general prior to his presidency.
While in times past, the inauguration crowd was packed with presidential supporters, this year the crowd was much more sparsely distributed. “Donald Trump has a very outspoken personality. And I think that sparks a lot of controversy, which is why there weren’t as many people. He causes a lot of division and discord within the people of America. Which caused a very different atmosphere than in years past,” said Daija Phipps(‘19).
Trump states, “We assembled here today, are issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital, and in every hall of power. From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first. America first. Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs will be made to benefit American workers and American families.”
While this controversial statement drove many Trump supporters at home to cheer, it worries people that he’s cutting off foreign ties.
On Saturday January 21, thousands of women protested Trump and his ideals in Washington DC and around other cities of the world. Occasionally, the more passionate protesters would resort to violence to prove their unhappiness. Mr.Trump starts out his term with less encouragement than any other past president.
Whether you support our new president or not, it is time for us all to grow and accept Mr.Trump. Because as some worry that the world is ending, it is in fact still going. I promise.
