The Impact of Grades on Your Future
Grades play a fundamental role in a student’s education by giving the student a measurement as to where they are in their understanding of a certain topic and whether or not they should pursue a career based off of their enjoyment and knowledge of the topic.
Elise Strachila, AHS’ new Career Counselor, said that grades play a large factor in determining a student’s future, as it is the first step towards receiving a high school diploma. Strachila considers the high school diploma as one of the “many critical things in being employable” as a job allows you to live the life you want to live. Receiving an “A” reflects that a student has a good grasp of a topic whereas a “C” shows that a student only met the guidelines. However, grades that students receive in high school are only the beginning.
Strachila said that “throughout life, we are evaluated” by our bosses, friends, peers, spouses, et cetera.
Mr. Hinojosa, one of the counselors, agrees with this, as it teaches us how to “develop good work ethics,” and gives us “self discipline” in our everyday lives.
Essentially, grades impact our future as it determines how we interact within society as a whole, and leads us to a future defined by our grades. Everyone has different standards for themselves.
