How to Be Successful at AHS
Within society, we are all pressured to join in the race towards success. However, students at Arlington High School have several different opinions on how to become successful.
Jaclyn Perry (’18) said that, “doing the best you can, always being your best” will bring success both in and outside of school.
Although this is a widely accepted view, freshman Melissa Schmitt saw success as “never giving up” and always staying true to what students believe to be right.
There are different ways to work towards success; freshman Justine Gordon said that the way to attain success is to study and work hard all the time. Gordon also believes that students should “ask questions” when they do not understand the material that is being taught or handed to them.
“Study for all tests; (and) do all homework on time,” said Perry.
Although it is difficult to define exactly what success is to them, students do know when they’ve reached success when they, “feel like you’ve done your best and can’t do more” said Schmitt.
Although these students have an idea of what success is to them, they do feel a certain pressure to conform to an image society depicts as success.
If you’re not successful, then you’re looked at as a failure. Society is based so much on college; if you don’t go, you’re not successful in society, like not getting paid,” said Perry.
