School spirit can be defined as many different things, whether you think about it as going to games, dressing up for spirit days or even just wearing school appeal around your town.
Your high school experience is only four years long, there are so many activities to do within that time that can change how you view high school. The meaning of having school spirit and being connected can be different for everyone.
“Going to as many games as you can, doing all of the chants with the cheerleaders, and cheering on the team,” Emersyn Ames (11) said.
Showing up and cheering for your fellow athletes or classmates can be a huge piece in their success by driving the energy up in the room. Knowing people showed up to support you can make them want to play better in return.
“It’s a little nerve racking at first seeing everybody in the student section but once you’re used to it and everybody gets hype it gets you hype and makes you want to play better,” Lila Matter (11) a varsity volleyball player said.
Not only is school spirit important for your athletes, but I can also help you feel connected to your school and the peers around you.
“I feel like dressing up for events creates the theme of being all connected together… Arlington in general has great school spirit,” Brody Dalgaard (12) student section leader said.
Dressing up and having fun with the people you’re in school with for a long period of time can give you life-long memories of high school to look back on, Dalgaard gives a piece of advice about this for anyone on the fence.
“I would just say go to as many games as you can, just get rid of the cool card and have fun,” Dalgaard said.
