Last night, May 19th, Seniors who received a scholarship from universities or colleges were invited to a ceremony that celebrates their achievements. This also allows for their family and guests to get the opportunity to watch their students.
The ceremony was held in the Byrnes Performing Art Center at Arlington High School from 6-8pm.
Receiving multiple of the scholarships, Grace Davis (12) will be attending Pepperdine in the fall season of 2025. This gave her the opportunity to take off around 77,000 dollars in her tuition.
“Pepperdine is a very expensive school. So without my scholarships, kids would be paying 95,000 a year and that’s a lot of money. So with my original scholarship I would only be paying 25,000 but still like chipping at the paint with scholarships is always helpful,” Davis said.
Certain college tuition may appear expensive to some. Applying for these scholarships to take advantage of the amount of money off, can help a lot.
“I didn’t apply for the superintendent scholarship, I was just given it and then I applied for the rotary scholarship through a separate application that I found on the school website. Then the Dollars for Scholars was the Fine Arts Scholarship. I got roughly 8,000 dollars,” Bailey Linklater (12) said.
For Linklater, applying for these scholarships beforehand, would be worth it looking into her future.
¨ If you’re especially doing something that you really wanna do and you’ve done it for a long time, you kind of have to make that happen somehow and you have to find ways to do that and it requires a lot of scholarships,¨ Linklater said.
Also attending scholarship night, Siri Jemmett received the Merrell Mayo Scholarship through Dollars for Scholars. This scholarship took $2,500 dollars off her tuition.
¨I thought this would be a really good way to get me started on community college and just be able to get a good head start finally,¨ Jimmett said.
