What Is Key Club?
Many people don’t know what key club is and what the point of that club is and why it is there. Well key club is a student-led, service-oriented organization that operates in high school and its mission is to develop leadership skills through service to others.
While being a part of key club since her freshman year, now a junior Ashlyn Huling said ¨The goal of key club is to foster an environment for community service and support. It encourages high school students to get involved in their community and help bring up those who are less fortunate.¨
Huling personally has around 100 hours of community service, as being in key club there is a requirement to get community service hours each year. Fundraising is a large part of key club and Huling said ¨We haven’t had the chance to fundraiser this year due to some setbacks and switching advisors, however, we have one planned for kindness week in which we will be raising money for our club to allow us to purchase supplies for future events and volunteer opportunities.¨
The point of Key Club is to empower students to learn skills that will benefit them for the future and to educate them in the importance of helping the community around students. Lieutenant Governor of key club Cielo Mena junior said ¨I enjoy Key Club because I personally get to meet people who have the same preferences as me, which is to help the community as much as I can and I get to meet new people.¨
Mena´s favorite part of key club is traveling to either Oregon or Seattle every year for board meetings. As well as key club traveling to wild waves in the summer time as a group.
Key club has a meaningful point of helping our community, Junior Desiree Cook said “really enjoy Key Club! It was my first club that I ever joined, and it quickly became one of my favorites. Through this club, I discovered my enjoyment and love for volunteering and helping the community.” Cook personally has over 30+ hours of community service over the past year, she has really accomplished a lot while being a part of this club.
Huling said “The goal of the key club is to foster an environment for community service and support. It encourages high school students to get involved in their community and help bring up those who are less fortunate.”
