Lip Dub, a single unedited shot, a school wide lip sync. Mr. Ballew and Stevie Costello have announced bringing this memorable video back to AHS, as they plan for the May 1st filming of this old tradition.
The brainstorming process has taken place since early November, as they gathered groups to work on building sets, deciding themes, and planning auditions. As they have begun to finalize details, they announced the 5 featured songs that will be played throughout the recording.
- Can’t Take My Eyes Off You (Ten Things I Hate About You)
- Dancing Queen (Mamma Mia)
- Ain’t No Mountain High Enough (Remember The Titans)
- Twist and Shout (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off)
- Don’t You Forget About Me (Breakfast Club)
“The whole idea with the Lip Dub in the first place was to create a community experience, something that everybody could relate to, they could point back to and go, I was a part of that, it creates a community identity. And so we felt like, coming out of the pandemic, this was finally the right time to do that,” Mr. Ballew said.
With the planners putting effort to make an enjoyable experience for everyone, staff that have participated before explained the significance of this event.
“I think it’s been like the most energy, more than even like football games, I think it gets everyone involved, and it brings literally everyone, especially because since we’ve been doing them for so long, kind of on and off, um it’s a way to connect with past generations of school, and future generations, the people who see the videos on YouTube, start to really look forward to it,” Mr. Stupey said.
The plan for the day of the Lip Dub is still undecided, yet will likely include a 50 minute assembly schedule informing everyone of their roles, dedicated zones, and how it will function smoothly. Following the assembly, students will be expected to head to their areas for filming.
“My goal is to have it be enjoyable enough for the school so that people wanna do it in the next year and the year after that, and just to kind of have it be something to mix it up because I feel like a lot of people sometimes get tired of school so I thought this would be different,” Costello said.
