During the past years, AI use has skyrocketed within schools across the country and many people have their own opinions about the positive and negative effects of how it should be used. While some students have used it to help provide feedback, others have been taking advantage of the program.
AI programs can determine your education and imagination depending on the amount of usage it will be producing now and in the future for people around the world. Now it’s just up to how humans use their time on it.
“Positive, it has been getting me good grades but the negatives, it can take away from my learning because I use it for homework” Emme Shaffer (‘26) said.
Shaffer has been using the ai app, “chatGPT” for a few of her classes recently as well as when studying while teachers aren’t around to figure out questions that weren’t asked in class. Using the program has been able to get her further in her education at home when needed.
“I feel like I can teach myself stuff through it, sometimes I get a lot more interested and involved in what I researched” Shaffer said.
At AHS, some teachers believe that AI mainly has negative effects on the students and their assignments as well as answers. Others disagree saying it opens up students’ imaginations and what they can do within technology.
In the last week, Mr. Hollis, an engineering and robotics teacher at AHS has been helping his students use the AI program called, “DeepSeek.” Hollis has helped educate his students on why the program can effect us in a positive way.
“The people that were using the calculators, when they first came out, thought it was going to be cheating. And now we just use calculators as part of our day to day life. I think AI is gonna become that same thing” Hollis said.
Hollis believes although AI can help us significantly, we will still need human thoughts and thinking to completely understand.
“You’re gonna say, hey, AI, can you put this together for me? And then you’re gonna still have to use some human experience and say, that’s not quite right” Hollis said.
While some teachers and students believe that AI can affect us in positive ways, others disagree.
“ I think that just the plain generative AI type thing is just a more efficient way to do things which I don’t know think that’s always better” Deja Reed (‘26) said.
While Reed believes that AI is mainly to get schoolwork done and out of the way quickly, she does believe it can keep others interested.
“It can be genuinely used as a good tool, for things like brainstorming. As well as finding different resources for different things and stuff” Reed said.
