Students registering for classes for next year should carefully consider their academic goals and interests to ensure they select courses that will best support their educational journey. When students register for classes, they should discuss subjects they’re passionate about and what will help them achieve their future plans. It’s also a good idea to balance challenging courses with ones they enjoy to keep things interesting and manageable.
“I plan on taking six classes as a senior, which I know most seniors are trying to take as few classes as possible. But I know it’s a good idea because It will look good on my transcript,” Noah Climicosa (11) said. “When I was a freshman I was so excited to pick out classes for my sophomore year and that still hasn’t changed. I’m a junior going into my senior year excited to choose classes that are the right fit for me next year.”
As the year goes on many students start to think of the classes they will be taking next year, and for some it many students struggle with picking classes for next year because it can be challenging to balance interests, prerequisites, and workload and that’s why we have many resources available for students to get help for deciding what they want to do in the upcoming year.
The biggest recourse at AHS for registration would be Ms. Crookes head of the counseling center. Inspiring students to take classes for the next year “really comes down to meeting requirements. Sometimes we have to do something we don’t like very much or maybe we’re not very good at it but the payoff in the end is totally worth it,” Crookes said. “In the case of required classes, the payoff is graduation and a diploma. Keeping a good attitude and focusing on the end goal can make it a lot easier. I also like to remind students that doing your best is enough. You don’t have to be perfect but you should always try your best. I also like to point out any resources or strategies for getting help if students know they’re going to struggle with a required class.”
Registration opened February 13 and will stay open through February 21. Students should remember to choose alternates. They must complete the grade specific form and submit it to the counseling center after entering their requests in Skyward. Failure to complete all of these steps will result in students not being scheduled for classes. The course description guide is a great resource to answer questions about what a class is all about so students know what they are getting themselves into.
