Post Middle School Bond
Recently, the Arlington School District proposed a bond to allocate 107.5 millions dollars to rebuild Post Middle School, add additional wings and art rooms to Arlington High School, as well as general improvements for all schools within the district, like adding increased security measures. The main concern of the bond would be to replace Post, to lessen safety concerns posed from the open campus, and move it to a geologically safer location (the current campus sits on hillside, and according to a state report, has a medium-high risk potential for landslides).
The bond ultimately required 60% approval in order to pass. On February 16th, it fell short of about 5%, with only 55% of Arlington voters choosing to support the bond. It is speculated that voters were concerned that the passage of this bond would lead to increased property taxes, despite reassurance from the school district saying otherwise.
District officials are now wondering how to proceed from here. They may propose another bond plan for the special election April 24, but there are no official plans right now.
